Despite the Iron Curtain that divided Eastern Europe from the rest of the world, Living Sound was able sing in Eastern European countries including Poland, working with Cardinal Karol Woytyla who would become Pope John Paul II, and the Soviet Union, at a time when few other Western groups played there. This story journeys back 33 years to a time of explosive tension between the U.S.A. and U.S.S.R, namely the Iranian hostage crisis, the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and the U.S. boycott of the 1980 Moscow Summer Olympics.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 299px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a title=\"Go to the YouTube version &quot;THE STORY AND THE MUSIC: We Can't Live Without Each Other&quot; by Michael McKibben\" href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/bE6xKGI9HOs\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Living Sound Team IV performing at Soviet Central TV on July 23, 1981, L\/R: Raye Walter, Lisa Mills, Leesa Cherry, Ted Jeans\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nancymckibben.com\/images\/living-sound-team-iv-on-soviet-tv-july-21-1981-300w.jpg\" alt=\"Living Sound Team IV performing at Soviet Central TV on July 23, 1981\" width=\"299\" height=\"169\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">July 23, 1981<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It documents the collaboration between a tightly controlled Soviet cultural elite, a Communist government committed to the eradication of religion and free thought, blacklisted and underground Soviet bands Arsenal (&#8220;A\u0440\u0441\u0435\u043d\u0430\u043b&#8221;) and Time Machine (&#8220;\u041c\u0430\u0448\u0438\u043d\u0430 \u0432\u0440\u0435\u043c\u0435\u043d\u0438&#8221;), activist Artemy Troitsky, persecuted Soviet Christian musicians from Estonia, and a group of young American, Canadian and European Christian musicians in a pop\/jazz\/rock Gospel band named &#8220;Living Sound.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The songs &#8220;We Can&#8217;t Live Without Each Other&#8221; and &#8220;Childhood Dreams&#8221; by Soviet composer, Alexandra Pakhmutova (awarded the <a title=\"Alexandra Pakhmutova was awarded the Order of Lenin in 1979. This is the highest decoration bestowed by the Soviet Union\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Orders_of_Lenin\">Order of Lenin<\/a> in 1979) with English lyrics by Nancy McKibben, are the fruit of this unlikely East-West collaboration. This video also features &#8220;Then and Now&#8221; descriptions of the activities of principals in this story since 1981.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #d2232a;\"><strong>THE MUSIC:<\/strong><\/span> &#8220;We Can&#8217;t Live Without Each Other&#8221; (\u201cH\u0430\u043c \u043d\u0435 \u0436\u0438\u0442\u044c \u0434\u0440\u0443\u0433 \u0431\u0435\u0437 \u0434\u0440\u0443\u0433\u0430\u201d) by A.
